Bush and the Republican's excellent economic adventure

Mon Jan 09, 2006 at 04:33:06 PM PDT

This is a simple diary. I'm no Bondad of Jerome a Paris so if you are looking for in depth economic analysis, you're in the wrong place.

I heard that Bush got some good news today on the economic front. The Dow topped 11,000. Yipee!!!

I know that conventional wisdom holds that Republicans are good for Wall Street. So I thought to myself, let's see how well it has done under Bush.

Passion on the House Floor - Open Thread

Fri Nov 18, 2005 at 01:47:14 PM PDT

Tempers are heating up on the House Floor.

Debates are ongoing over the Iraq war and Murtha's Resolution.

It sounds more like the British Parliament than the US House of Representatives. Lots of booing and clapping.

Turn to CSPAN-1 to view it.

Bush plans to screw gulf coast workers - Again.

Thu Sep 22, 2005 at 07:51:37 AM PDT

We've all heard about Bush waiving the prevailing wage requirement of the Davis-Bacon act for construction workers because it had a loophole that allowing him to do so in the event of a natural disaster.

We've also assumed that service workers would protected by the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act because it does not have a similar loophole.

Well, I don't know about you, but that's enough for me.  I'm sure we can trust George W Bush to protect the rights of workers.  He would never try any dirty tricks to get around the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act provisions. Nope. Not Bush.

Oops, it looks like we may have misunderestimated him again.  Thank goodness he is looking out for us.  According to Lou Dobbs last night:

DOBBS: The Bush administration says it can cut red tape and inefficiency in the disaster region by denying construction workers there the prevailing wage. And it may also extend to the Gulf Coast services sector. Concern is now growing that the Bush administration may relax wage and hiring standards that have helped Gulf Coast service workers make ends meet.

Dick Morris: Bush "Man is he fortunate"

Fri Sep 16, 2005 at 02:28:52 PM PDT

Last night, I watched Bush's cameo performance in the Hurricane Katrina fiasco. Afterwards, while flipping through stations I landed on Fox.

Hannity and Colmes were on with their post performance review and I happened to catch them talking to Dick Morris (introduced as former Clinton advisor).

Dick was on a roll, his review included the following comments:

  • It was a female speech
  • Even Reagan would agree to spending money for a disaster
  • Bush will look like Santa Claus
  • Democrats should just shut up
  • Bush's speech was fantastic

President Bush, I have one question for you

"Just how stupid do you think we are?"

I think Dean pissed off the RNC

Mon Aug 15, 2005 at 02:38:17 PM PDT

Howard Dean appeared yesterday on Face the Nation.  I thought he did a great job countering spin and staying on message.

Face the Nation Transcript (warning this is a PDF file)

He came out swinging:

First thing we need to do have a plan for leaving. And the second thing we need to do is to make sure that to the best of our ability we can influence the writing of the constitution. It looks like today, and this could change--as of today, it looks like women will be worse off in Iraq than they were when Saddam Hussein was president of Iraq. That's a pretty sad commentary on this administration's ability to do anything right.

What's your sign? Saturday Night Meat Market

Sat May 28, 2005 at 05:31:51 PM PDT

Well, it's Saturday night and I have enough courage to write another diary.  One of these days, "as God is my witness", I will write an important diary.

Until then I thought we could have some fun.

We have seen several diaries polling us about our ages, education, gender etc.

Here is a new one.  What is your Zodiac sign?

Funny pet tricks

Sat Apr 30, 2005 at 03:54:27 PM PDT

I have been a member of Daily Kos for a while but still feel like a newbie.

Before coming here I was SO SO SO politically ignorant.  Thanks to everyone here, I have learned so much. In fact I my fantasy is to post a really insightful diary but I know I have a way to go.  Until then, I figured that since it's Saturday night, why not post my first diary about something I do know about.

Pets.

I love them all, little, big, furry, scaly, feathered and whatever way they bring joy to our lives.

I have had the fortune of having at least one pet throughout most of my life.  Until lately that has meant cats.  They understood my long work hours and frequent travel.  Lately I have had more time on my hands so I adopted a puppy.  You can see his picture here http://www.geocities.com/igrescuepa/sam.htm
