I began tonight after getting off duty, ( Duty NCO for a Leadership Course I was parachuted into at the last moment due to an urgent need to fill a sudden vacancy -- a vacancy that has led me to be about thousand miles from wife and pootie for a while ) with the idea of doing a post on my own blog as to who I thought would make the best choice for our nominees ticket mate. This I did. As an NCO at a premier school I have cable in my room and a kickass wireless signal so as I sat down to write I was watching CNN to get tonights results from what everyone has to admit has been a long strange road of a Primary battle.
A good day for one NY politician --- the kiss of death for another. The NY Times has released it's endorsements. And pretty much put the coup de gras to Rudi. It remains to see the effect on Hillarys run.
We all know how the GOP blathers on about supporting the troops, quick with their bumper stickers and sloganeering, often hiding behind said troops in lieu of an actual policy. And this at a time that Veterans care would have to elevated to reach the criteria or description of sub standard. At a time when families suffer from continual deployment, PTSD is ignored at a time horrendous numbers of suicides are being reported and veterans are falling through societys ever widening cracks. From an Administration that sent troops unequipped and without a plan into a long quagmire of conflict.
But now there is something President Bush can do for one veteran.
I know... we are all sick of the pathetic Craig saga -- on many levels -- as we watch a career deservedly go down the toilet. But, with the news that Senator Craig will announce his resignation tomorrow there is an issue that needs to discussed. And celebrated.
Lost amongst the roar of the flushing toilet that is the Neo Con Morality, the pitter patter of rats running down the gangway of the GOP ship of state and chimpy's pathetic explanations of his abject failure to rebuild New Orleans on the second anniversery of Katrina is a story out of New York.
Lady Bird Johnson is dead At 94. Of course when someone of that age it is not unexpected, especially after a lengthy illness --but nonetheless a sad occaision.
Like many a Kossack I have an affinity (actually more like an obsession) for all things electoral. If it votes I follow it. The only game in town lately (at least untill the Ukraine votes) are the ninth elections for the Presidency of the Fifth Republic, the first round of which is scheduled for April 22. As I just returned the other day from a couple of weeks in that country I must be some sort of expert. Or at least I have appointed myself as one.
Voters in Minnesota got a Valentine's Day gift from Air America host Al Franken today with his announcement of his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat held by Norm Coleman.
A very quick diary here as I have to go work in a few minutes. But CNN just came out and said Hillary is 'officially' in the race. Surer, enough, I looked up from coffee and saw her webcast, basiclly confirming what CNN said.
I'm watching the Situation Room right now and Jack Cafferty just put up a poll for the next hour asking about todays non sitting of Congress.
( actually they were sitting in a Pro Forma sesson at 2:00 PM(eastern)). It appears that the reason is because Congressman Boehner, he of the GOP leadership, had a request. He had a conflict to his schedule.
Greetings on this Day of the Donkey. It's early morning for some and real late at night for others. Regardless, it's been a long day for all. And a good day. A very, very good day.
I love election days. Always have. And as long we have them, always will. To me they are Christmas, Easter, New Years, Thanksgiving and Birthdays all rolled into one. They are Sunset and Sunrise all at once.
it is apparent that Republican's will lose. As grim polling numbers for the GOP become a fixture and newspapers across the country endorse Democrats it is not hard to feel a sense of impending victory emerging in the psyche of many a long suffering Democrat. It really does feel good but it might be a mistake.
This is,I will admit a pretty short diary. I thought I'd slip it in on a Saturday night in hopes of getting a bit of a response for what is an entirly worthy cause. One that in many ways cannot be ignored wihout losing the right to say the phrase "worthy cause".
Surprise. Another diary with the name Mark Foley in it. While there may be no shortage of opinion, and a danger of fatigue it remains a worthy topic of discussion. Simply because it really does involve almost everything that is either an issue or,indeed, a crisis at this point in time.
And so it has come to pass, the inevitable, that all but the principle character and his assorted, but diminishing band of minions thought would never come. Rep Bob Ney of the 18th District has parted the stage.
I haven't had much time lately to post here as much as I would like to. I guess that is a common problem for those of us that somehow have failed to be either independantly wealthy or an Exxon CEO, but I have had to,in fact, attend to real life stuff. I suppose one or two other Kossacks have to,on occasion,do the same. And tonight(this morning--it took me a while to do this) I feel the urge to say something. In fact, the last week or so has really sucked. Just as the recruit course I have spent the last few months training was on its last stages( and kind of using up a whole lot my time!), while on a field ex,I got the sort of shot in the gut that so many of us live with( and dread ) the possibility of happening every day now.
